Cookies! {and some Press}

A few weeks back we shared invites and details from a "Vintage Collegiate" wedding. Apparently the buttons we made were popular and Brides Magazine from Washington DC agreed! The bride and groom sent their guests away with cookies in the shapes of the states that they each grew up in. As if the bright, delicious cookies were not cute enough on their own, each bag was fastened with lace and adorned with one of our adorable mini-buttons.

We are so happy that Brides Magazine liked these cute favors and we hope that you do too!

Evolution of an invitation

Anything custom requires more time and attention than something mass-produced. In fashion-speak, it's the "haute couture" of stationery, while pre-made designs are equivalent to the ready-to-wear. Paper Moss has been custom since its first breath. There is something so satisfying about working with clients to make their vision a reality. The design process goes through many "renovations" to finally achieve the look that our brides and grooms are dreaming of. When we first sat down with {bride to be} Mary Jo, she mentioned her love of Paris and the time she spent abroad. As the conversation evolved and we learned more about her and her honey, it only seemed natural to aim for a "Vintage Parisian" look for their invitation suite... without being cliche. Since we all needed a little inspiration, she sent these photos to inspire designs:

After identifying their color palette, discussing fonts, deciding on the type and weight of paper and getting a general idea of what they wanted, designs for Mary Jo and Paul began. In the first round, we included several options that the bride and groom evaluate and give feedback on. We pulled characteristics from one and add them to another, flip things around, make one design smaller or another less detailed... the list goes on! Here are some of their initial designs:

Sparing the details of the back and forth, the questions, the answers, the tweaking, the perfecting, the printing and yadda yadda, you get the point... their final product fit the bill! PUN intended! Our bride and groom both adored their invitation suite and we were gladly able to accommodate the budget they were working with.

And here is their final "Vintage Parisian" wedding invitation...

And that friends, is how a custom invitation evolves!

These two love birds

Jen and Scott, who are off honeymooning as we type {as you read}, were married this past weekend at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI. This happens to be one of our favorite New England venues {have you SEEN IT?!} This sweet couple shared our passionate obsession with the Ocean House and were so determined to have their wedding there that they booked it while still under construction for it's renovation... they even had to wear hard hats at the site visit!

With such a gorgeous destination, Jen and Scott decided to make a weekend out of it. Take a peek at the agenda that was sent out with their invitations:

The hand-drawn icons were a hit! We heart these little icons and will certainly share more in the future. Going for a vintage and romantic feel, we thought that peach, ivory and grey was the perfect color scheme for a end of summer wedding. While the natural twine is a fun touch and adds texture, it also served its purpose and held all cards together, complete with a personalized tag.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We hope the wedding weekend extravaganza was magical!

Being that jewelry and paper are two of our favorite things, we figured it was only fitting to dress up some of our Paper Moss creations with sparkly jewels and pearls. While taking this opportunity to share some of the gorgeous pics, we figured this would be the perfect time to introduce our first "Vendor Profile". East Greenwich Wedding Walk

To all the future brides, friends of brides and mothers of brides, this one's for you! Paper Moss, along with other businesses are joining forces for the 2nd annual East Greenwich Wedding Walk. Come on out to Main Street in East Greenwich, RI {the fun starts at 174 Main Street, the old Dugan Jewelers} and indulge in all - things - wedding. Spend the day collecting ideas, tasting yummy cake {we'll likely be loitering around the cake samples}, enjoy complementary jewelry cleaning and take home some swag in reusable canvas totes. It's supposed to be a gorgeous day, so slather on that sun screen and enjoy the fun!

A Vintage Collegiate Wedding

If there was a trophy to be given for the most unique wedding theme {while still keeping it classy}, Alison and Chris would surely be the proud owners. When they first described the vision for their Norman Rockwell inspired or "Vintage Collegiate" Wedding, we fell in love. The couple had the help of Ritzy Bee Events to design and coordinate this incredible affair that took place at the Dumbarton House in Georgetown, DC. They incorporated unique elements to reflect history, one of which was an actual vintage postcard from Washington, DC that was used for their RSVP cards, and then displayed at the reception along with a variety of other old trinkets. Alison and Chris chose to use vintage stamps with their invitation suite, each one carefully selected to fit the theme and reflect themselves... a Dolly Madison stamp relating to the Dumbarton House, a Maine stamp representing where the groom is from, an Indiana stamp for where the bride is from, in addition to a variety of other DC related ones.We absolutely LOVED their idea of making monogram buttons to attach to little bags of cookies as wedding favors... pretty much everything about this wedding was adorable. The attention to detail in every area made their day glitter. We hope to be able to share some other fun details at some point, but for now, enjoy these pics!

You're Invited!

This past year has been an exciting one for Paper Moss. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to our faithful friends, family and fellow stationery nerds for continued support and encouragement. Per usual, there is never a dull moment with us which is why we are {jumping up and down} ecstatic to share with you the latest.... drummmmmm rolllll......

After 2 wonderful years of sharing the studio space of Studio 539 Flowers with {delectable} Sweet Sophistications we’ve decided to bring in the {stunning} Dugan Custom Jewelers to join forces with us and form an Event Co-op. In the weeks to come, we’ll be able to share more specifics, but in the mean time, save the date for our  "Sweet & Savory" launch party! Join us to celebrate the start of this adventure, mingle with other {very cool} people and try some sweet & savory bites.

Whoa Baby!

It's baby time!! Seriously, 4 of our dear friends recently had babies {within weeks of each other} and though the shower marathon happened months ago, we have babies on the mind more than ever. We've never been so inclined to purchase anything and everything 'baby' {isn't that what Aunties do??} and the influx of text messages, emails and facebook status updates showing these new little lives makes us embarrassingly emotional but oh-so-happy! Congratulations to all the new mommys... and to those who are expecting!

You may recognize this logo from our posting on rubber stamps from a couple months ago, but we couldn't resist putting together an inspiration board to complement the adorable letter pressed invite. If planning a baby shower is in your near future, we hope this inspires you to put a fun, funky twist!

Most Wanted

During a quick trip to New York last week to meet with clients, we had the chance to pop into the Elliot Lucca showroom, where a dear friend of ours is living the dream as a graphic designer/ photographer. Now don’t get us wrong, Paper Moss is our own precious dream come true and we couldn’t love it be more, but SERIOUSLY, jealousy tugs on our heartstrings at the sight {and sweet smell} of this showroom. What do you know… handbags happen to be one of our favorite vices! Our friend was kind enough to send over pictures of a few of their handbags on our “Most Wanted” list. Though we’re sad to have summer fade away, these gorgeous fall handbags are making us so excited for crisp days, being bundled in warm clothes and donning one of these saucy new purses!!

Also follow Elliott Lucca on Facebook and Twitter... because we said so :)

Wedding in Watch Hill

Our lips are sealed as to the specifics, but we attended one spectacular wedding over the weekend held at The Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI. Originally built in 1868, this house brought in many distinguished guests through the years and became an iconic part of Watch Hill {you can see why!} It closed in 2003 from after aging and being deemed ‘beyond repair’. After seven years of meticulous design and construction, The Ocean House recently re-opened in June… just in time for a certain bride and her groom to have the wedding of their dreams!

What an idyllic location for a wedding or even for a special weekend getaway. The Ocean House has 49 hotel rooms, 23 private residences, meeting and events rooms, a club room, a spa with pool and exercise facilities, public bars, restaurants, a private beach, croquet court and the list goes on…

Stay tuned for more details from this magical occasion… and let us know if any of you decide to hop over to Watch Hill for a little vacay!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the newly weds!

Using vintage stamps?

Details make life interesting. There’s no denying that we are detail-obsessed, and it's probably safe to say that to some degree you are too... right? It's the little things that truly make an impression on us. True as it is in many aspects of life, its also what makes stationery so fun. While invitations, stationery, business cards {etc.} are in the design stage, Paper Moss is thinking of all of those special touches that will continue to convey the clients personality or brand. A fun little something that we've been occupied with as of late, has been finding and using vintage stamps.

This doesn't just have to be a wedding trend. Imagine how fun it would be to receive a birthday card or shower invitation in the mail that was adorned with pretty, vintage stamps! You can find them everywhere, but surprisingly enough, we like the random selection on ebay or at Champion Stamp. Vintage stamps are USPS approved as long as they have not been used and add up to the correct postage amount.

This invite designed by Paper Moss {and client} has a fun variety. The bride and groom are represented by their home-state stamps mixed with patriotic ones to match the wedding location: Georgetown, DC.

Hand picked for the SMP Photo shoot were stamps that related to our vintage country chic theme.

when in rome... pop the question!

Congratulations to Ben and Kaitlyn, who tied the knot in Georgetown, DC on Friday night! In honor of their marriage, we thought this would be the perfect time to share their engagement story with you {it happens to be one of our personal faves}. Since the magical day when Ben popped the question, Paper Moss has been working with him and Kaitlyn to create their perfect Invitation Suite. On their Save the Dates, we went wild with fonts, stayed simple with the color palate yet still captured an airy elegance that represents this couple.

Pictures of the gorgeous invites will be up soon, but for now, enjoy their oh-so-romantic story…

{From Kaitlyn's perspective}

In January, I chose to study abroad in Italy with my school, the University of Maryland. My boyfriend works in New York City in a job that requires he work 7 days a week. While I hoped to talk to him occasionally, I was relying on email to stay in touch. I had no idea what was coming.

My university group traveled through several cities and spent the last week in Rome. On our second day there, after walking around the city continuously for 12 hours, I was ready to get back to my hotel room and relax. One of my roommates walked into the room before me and, with a surprised look on her face, said “Who are these for?!” as she pointed at two dozen white roses sitting on the table. We walked over to look at the attached note, and it said, “Kaitlyn, I miss you. Wish I could be there with you. Call me as soon as you get these - Ben.” Surprised that he had figured out the hotel I was in, I called to thank him for the wonderful surprise.

After a few minutes on the phone, he told me there was another surprise. He told me to walk down the stairs and outside of my hotel and then turn to the left. He said I would notice what it was when I saw it. As I told his instructions to one of my good friends, we were both thinking, “Could he be here?”… and of course we shook our heads no, “That would be impossible.” As I walked down the stairs and out of my hotel, I wondered if I would see a random Italian holding more flowers or a teddy bear. When I got outside the hotel entrance, I went to the left, and as I turned the corner, there he was, standing outside of my hotel in Rome, Italy, with a Vespa. Clearly, my heart stopped beating as I screamed, “What are you doing here??” I ran to give him a hug and he answered me by saying, “I missed you and I just wanted to say hi!.” Obviously, I knew he had to be up to something. I am finishing my last semester of school, and we had not really discussed when we might get engaged…I just thought ”no way”.

Ben told me to get a coat from my room, because he was taking me on a ride on the Vespa he had rented, and it was cold. We jumped on the scooter and the next thing I knew, we pulled up to the top of the Spanish Steps (which was one of my favorite spots in Rome). We walked down to the balcony, where there was absolutely no one else and we were looking out over a beautiful view of the whole city.

Ben, being his normal self, was cracking jokes and asking me how my trip was going. Still suspicious, with my heart beating faster and faster, he slowly moved the conversation to extremely romantic. He said “I Love You” (which he had been waiting to say until he proposed), slowly backed up and got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. As he pulled out the red box from his pocket, I screamed “YES!” and wrapped my arms around him. As I put on the ring, he told me there were a few more surprises. We turned around and he pointed to the top floor of a hotel, with all glass windows, which looks out over the city and said that it was one of the nicest restaurants in Rome and that we had a dinner reservation the following night.

To top all this off, his sister was there to photograph the entire event, and his brother and sister-in-law were there to videotape it all. He also put me in a 5 star hotel room for the next two nights, since clearly our study abroad trip didn’t include the most amazing accommodations. The most amazing weekend of my life ended with an engagement photo shoot around Rome with his sister, a professional photographer, and, of course, throwing coins in the Trevi Fountain.

I can’t imagine a better surprise, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.

Whatever it is

She got whatever it is...Don’t know what to do. Every time I try to tell her how I feel it comes out “I love you”… la de da da… Amy had that, well, “whatever it is” that made Dana determined to be her groom. True to the lyrics of their wedding song, by The Zac Brown Band, these two couldn’t have been more perfect for each other.

We had a wonderful time working with Amy & Dana on their save the dates {shown below} and invitation suite {stay tuned}. Amy poured her heart and soul into making sure they mirrored her vision for their special day. We balanced out the classic “Garden Elegance” with adding a preppy pop of shimmering raspberry paired with a deep  sky blue. If you love their Save the Dates, get ready to be blown away by their actual invites! To top off the fun colors and romantic design, the calligrapher left us crushing on the diagonally written addresses.

One last thing that we just have to share… through the design process, Amy decided to have us design a custom piece of art {to be framed}as a gift to her husband, which includes a line from their wedding song, “You got whatever it is”. What a fun way to capture such a momentous occasion!

Paper Moss would like to congratulate Amy and Dana on their marriage! All the best to you both!

Stamps aren’t just for art projects any more!

Favorite subject in school: art time {or recess} If you were a crafty child like we were, maybe you remember going crazy with stamps? Oh the possibilities: rainbow ink pads, embossing, adding sparkles??? Anyone? We slightly resent Crayola for coming out with mini-stampers a few years too late…sore subject.

Our inner-child just leapt for joy at the thought of adding custom stamps to the rundown of what Paper Moss offers. Several of our clients have already taken advantage, and in turn, they had an easy avenue for customizing treat bags, programs, water bottle wraps or even a quick fix for a stylish monogrammed return address stamp!

Fail proof! After all, isn’t it the details that create the big picture?

PS: Crayola, your stamps may come in an array of colors and be easily transportable but they smell funny and ours are better.

Congrats to Lynn & Ron!

While perusing some of our favorite wedding blogs and magazines today, we stumbled across this adorable inspiration board on Style Me Pretty. While the upcoming trend of this color combo is exciting, we were ecstatic to be reminded that Lynn and Ron {whose pink + navy invitations are below} just tied the knot last weekend! This energetic couple was so much fun to work with. To Lynn and Ron: Congratulations on your marriage… AND we applaud you for being fabulous trend setters. Best wishes for a long and happy life together!

Paper Moss + NYC = National Stationery Show!

Last weekend, Paper Moss went to the National Stationery Show in NYC! We had such a great time visiting with current vendors and suppliers, meeting other very talented stationery designers and getting inspired. The show features over 900 exhibitors! In other words, for those of us who love paper, the Stationary Show is our version of heaven. If you’re nerdy like us, you can check out the National Stationary Shows blog. It’s next to impossible to tackle the entire show in one day- but we came close! Our new friends from NYC Photobooth encouraged us to put away our professionalism, be a little silly and try out their product. They didn’t have to twist our arms… and now, we are obsessed! With customizable frames on the photos, these will never get lost in the shuffle with other photo booth pics. A perfect addition to any party, wedding, stationary tradeshow, reunions and the like. So, we would like to thank NYC Photobooth for capturing this occasion- this birth of incredible new ideas- this turning point for Paper Moss! We have some very exciting things in the works, so stay tuned! We’re a little giddy, can you tell?
