Seaworthy

Lovers of all-things-vintage & lovers of nautical style will equally adore this Portland, Oregon based company that caught our eye and lured us in! Imagine finding an old treasure chest filled with romantic antique charms, lace and jewels- pieces that are characterized by history. Seaworthy actually scouts out “discarded” items that the ordinary eye might overlook, and transforms them into beautiful works of art that would add intrigue to any ensemble. The mysterious previous life of each piece is our favorite part. They sum it up best by saying:  “What’s old is new again and it’s story is carried on…”

What a fun idea for bridesmaids, birthdays, hostess gifts… or a little treat for yourself!

Pearls of Wisdom: Sassy or Classy?

Pearls of Wisdom are bits of info that industry professionals have shared with us, to share with you. We’ll pull from photographers, florists, event coordinators, fashionistas, business owners… and whoever else is beaming with creative ideas to share. Whether these pearls are to inspire, indulge, clarify or challenge, we invite you to take them or leave them, and tell us what you think! One wedding trend that lives on in 2010: Colored Bridal Shoes. We know that tradition says to wear white or ivory “dyed to match” heels… but then they never get worn again. Stepping away from tradition can sometimes be hard {if not for you, perhaps for your parents} but this trend is both sassy and classy.

Colored shoes can be a fun way to integrate your wedding colors into your bridal attire, show a peep of personality and get more bang for your buck. Pops of color can revitalize the traditional matrimonial black & white by coordinating the brides shoes, bridesmaid’s dresses, the groomsmen’s ties, cufflinks, even socks and {of course}the invitations. Indoors or outdoors, year round, this little detail can add a lot of personality to your special day!

These "Pearls" were gifted by, Lynn De Koekkoek. Lynn has worked in the fashion industry for nearly 10 years, but was a fashionista right from the womb. She has gained expertise through working for Nordstrom Corporate and Cole Haan as well as obsessing over trend forecasting and worshiping Anna Wintour {Chief editor of Vogue} in her spare time.

Using vintage stamps?

Details make life interesting. There’s no denying that we are detail-obsessed, and it's probably safe to say that to some degree you are too... right? It's the little things that truly make an impression on us. True as it is in many aspects of life, its also what makes stationery so fun. While invitations, stationery, business cards {etc.} are in the design stage, Paper Moss is thinking of all of those special touches that will continue to convey the clients personality or brand. A fun little something that we've been occupied with as of late, has been finding and using vintage stamps.

This doesn't just have to be a wedding trend. Imagine how fun it would be to receive a birthday card or shower invitation in the mail that was adorned with pretty, vintage stamps! You can find them everywhere, but surprisingly enough, we like the random selection on ebay or at Champion Stamp. Vintage stamps are USPS approved as long as they have not been used and add up to the correct postage amount.

This invite designed by Paper Moss {and client} has a fun variety. The bride and groom are represented by their home-state stamps mixed with patriotic ones to match the wedding location: Georgetown, DC.

Hand picked for the SMP Photo shoot were stamps that related to our vintage country chic theme.

when in rome... pop the question!

Congratulations to Ben and Kaitlyn, who tied the knot in Georgetown, DC on Friday night! In honor of their marriage, we thought this would be the perfect time to share their engagement story with you {it happens to be one of our personal faves}. Since the magical day when Ben popped the question, Paper Moss has been working with him and Kaitlyn to create their perfect Invitation Suite. On their Save the Dates, we went wild with fonts, stayed simple with the color palate yet still captured an airy elegance that represents this couple.

Pictures of the gorgeous invites will be up soon, but for now, enjoy their oh-so-romantic story…

{From Kaitlyn's perspective}

In January, I chose to study abroad in Italy with my school, the University of Maryland. My boyfriend works in New York City in a job that requires he work 7 days a week. While I hoped to talk to him occasionally, I was relying on email to stay in touch. I had no idea what was coming.

My university group traveled through several cities and spent the last week in Rome. On our second day there, after walking around the city continuously for 12 hours, I was ready to get back to my hotel room and relax. One of my roommates walked into the room before me and, with a surprised look on her face, said “Who are these for?!” as she pointed at two dozen white roses sitting on the table. We walked over to look at the attached note, and it said, “Kaitlyn, I miss you. Wish I could be there with you. Call me as soon as you get these - Ben.” Surprised that he had figured out the hotel I was in, I called to thank him for the wonderful surprise.

After a few minutes on the phone, he told me there was another surprise. He told me to walk down the stairs and outside of my hotel and then turn to the left. He said I would notice what it was when I saw it. As I told his instructions to one of my good friends, we were both thinking, “Could he be here?”… and of course we shook our heads no, “That would be impossible.” As I walked down the stairs and out of my hotel, I wondered if I would see a random Italian holding more flowers or a teddy bear. When I got outside the hotel entrance, I went to the left, and as I turned the corner, there he was, standing outside of my hotel in Rome, Italy, with a Vespa. Clearly, my heart stopped beating as I screamed, “What are you doing here??” I ran to give him a hug and he answered me by saying, “I missed you and I just wanted to say hi!.” Obviously, I knew he had to be up to something. I am finishing my last semester of school, and we had not really discussed when we might get engaged…I just thought ”no way”.

Ben told me to get a coat from my room, because he was taking me on a ride on the Vespa he had rented, and it was cold. We jumped on the scooter and the next thing I knew, we pulled up to the top of the Spanish Steps (which was one of my favorite spots in Rome). We walked down to the balcony, where there was absolutely no one else and we were looking out over a beautiful view of the whole city.

Ben, being his normal self, was cracking jokes and asking me how my trip was going. Still suspicious, with my heart beating faster and faster, he slowly moved the conversation to extremely romantic. He said “I Love You” (which he had been waiting to say until he proposed), slowly backed up and got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. As he pulled out the red box from his pocket, I screamed “YES!” and wrapped my arms around him. As I put on the ring, he told me there were a few more surprises. We turned around and he pointed to the top floor of a hotel, with all glass windows, which looks out over the city and said that it was one of the nicest restaurants in Rome and that we had a dinner reservation the following night.

To top all this off, his sister was there to photograph the entire event, and his brother and sister-in-law were there to videotape it all. He also put me in a 5 star hotel room for the next two nights, since clearly our study abroad trip didn’t include the most amazing accommodations. The most amazing weekend of my life ended with an engagement photo shoot around Rome with his sister, a professional photographer, and, of course, throwing coins in the Trevi Fountain.

I can’t imagine a better surprise, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.

Whatever it is

She got whatever it is...Don’t know what to do. Every time I try to tell her how I feel it comes out “I love you”… la de da da… Amy had that, well, “whatever it is” that made Dana determined to be her groom. True to the lyrics of their wedding song, by The Zac Brown Band, these two couldn’t have been more perfect for each other.

We had a wonderful time working with Amy & Dana on their save the dates {shown below} and invitation suite {stay tuned}. Amy poured her heart and soul into making sure they mirrored her vision for their special day. We balanced out the classic “Garden Elegance” with adding a preppy pop of shimmering raspberry paired with a deep  sky blue. If you love their Save the Dates, get ready to be blown away by their actual invites! To top off the fun colors and romantic design, the calligrapher left us crushing on the diagonally written addresses.

One last thing that we just have to share… through the design process, Amy decided to have us design a custom piece of art {to be framed}as a gift to her husband, which includes a line from their wedding song, “You got whatever it is”. What a fun way to capture such a momentous occasion!

Paper Moss would like to congratulate Amy and Dana on their marriage! All the best to you both!

Cocktails with Beantown Bride

T’was a stormy night in Boston, our train was delayed, our hair was not cooperating, but we were on a mission. This mission, while vital to achieve with the utmost class, did involve cocktails. Beantown Bride couldn’t have asked for a better setting for their cocktail party celebration. Some people might fear a hearty storm, but others would agree that watching lightening dance through an entire wall of glass while standing in a chic space with some of Bostons most talented wedding vendors, is quite idyllic. We are forever in love with the Hyatt Harborside Hotel’s ballroom, their sweeping views of the city and romantic lighting.

While we were busy chattering with other vendors, it was hard to miss the detail that went into this soiree. Tall cocktail rounds draped with iridescent blue silk, topped with white roses, treat tables with candies in green and blue, milk and white chocolates, delicious bites being passed, and a yummy signature champagne cocktail… we want to go back. Right this minute.

Many friends were made at this Beantown Bride event, friends who you too will meet later through our “Pearls of Wisdom” tips from Event Professionals. Keep your eyes open for more pretty ideas from some very extraordinary people!

Mission accomplished.

Stamps aren’t just for art projects any more!

Favorite subject in school: art time {or recess} If you were a crafty child like we were, maybe you remember going crazy with stamps? Oh the possibilities: rainbow ink pads, embossing, adding sparkles??? Anyone? We slightly resent Crayola for coming out with mini-stampers a few years too late…sore subject.

Our inner-child just leapt for joy at the thought of adding custom stamps to the rundown of what Paper Moss offers. Several of our clients have already taken advantage, and in turn, they had an easy avenue for customizing treat bags, programs, water bottle wraps or even a quick fix for a stylish monogrammed return address stamp!

Fail proof! After all, isn’t it the details that create the big picture?

PS: Crayola, your stamps may come in an array of colors and be easily transportable but they smell funny and ours are better.

Friday Words of Wisdom

Happy Friday, everyone! We hope you have something fun planned, perhaps a little R&R? While you head off into the weekend, we would like to leave you with some words of wisdom {words that are not our own} Maybe someday we’ll be this wise… "Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true." -Leon J. Suenes

This birthday soiree blew us away!

We LOVE birthdays. Not so much our own, but birthday parties for other people really get us pumped up! Recently, we experienced the sheer magnificence of attending the 30th birthday of our friend, Sara Zarella, a Rhode Island based photo novelist. Knowing how fantastic, sweet and creative Sara is, we could have guessed that she’d put on quite the party, but even us seasoned party-goers were blown away! Being in the wedding industry herself, you can imagine what happens when Sara’s vendor friends collaborate… a gorgeous setting, outdoor fire, a sound system that could wake the neighbors, 3 custom cakes, an interactive photo booth, not to mention some pretty enticing invites to set the tone... wink.)As you may guess where this is going, here were a few highlights from the night:

Well now we’re blushing!

Sometimes it’s hard to take compliments! But since we received one today, we couldn’t not share... Denver based Cassandra Rose Events featured us on their blog! We helped Cassie brand her company in the wee planning stages and are thrilled to see things taking off! Stop by, take a little look-see and if you’re looking for someone to coordinate your wedding , plan your next party, throw together a shower or even design a corporate event, keep Cassandra Rose in mind!

Congrats to Lynn & Ron!

While perusing some of our favorite wedding blogs and magazines today, we stumbled across this adorable inspiration board on Style Me Pretty. While the upcoming trend of this color combo is exciting, we were ecstatic to be reminded that Lynn and Ron {whose pink + navy invitations are below} just tied the knot last weekend! This energetic couple was so much fun to work with. To Lynn and Ron: Congratulations on your marriage… AND we applaud you for being fabulous trend setters. Best wishes for a long and happy life together!

Paper Moss + NYC = National Stationery Show!

Last weekend, Paper Moss went to the National Stationery Show in NYC! We had such a great time visiting with current vendors and suppliers, meeting other very talented stationery designers and getting inspired. The show features over 900 exhibitors! In other words, for those of us who love paper, the Stationary Show is our version of heaven. If you’re nerdy like us, you can check out the National Stationary Shows blog. It’s next to impossible to tackle the entire show in one day- but we came close! Our new friends from NYC Photobooth encouraged us to put away our professionalism, be a little silly and try out their product. They didn’t have to twist our arms… and now, we are obsessed! With customizable frames on the photos, these will never get lost in the shuffle with other photo booth pics. A perfect addition to any party, wedding, stationary tradeshow, reunions and the like. So, we would like to thank NYC Photobooth for capturing this occasion- this birth of incredible new ideas- this turning point for Paper Moss! We have some very exciting things in the works, so stay tuned! We’re a little giddy, can you tell?
